What is a short haul move?
This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.

What is a local move?
This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.

What is an intrastate move?
This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.

Will my moving company have extra packing materials?
Most moving companies will provide you with extra materials during the day of the move for an additional cost.

Do I have to empty all of my filing cabinets?
Metal filing cabinets with 2-drawers can be left full, but you should empty the top 2 drawers of a 4-drawer cabinet. You should also completely empty all lateral file cabinets and all drawers of a wood cabinet.

What is an international move?
This is a move where your items must cross an international boundary, regardless of actual distance.

How will my movers know which items to take and which ones should be left?
Make sure you clearly indicate to your packers and movers which exactly which items should be moved and which should stay behind. Mark all boxes appropriately and if possible, designate a separate area for items that should stay.

What is an intrastate move? 
This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. 

What is long carry? 
You may be charged an additional fee if the moving van can’t come within a certain distance from the entrance of your destination. This is generally 75 feet, but you need to check with your particular moving company. ? 

What is a re-weigh?
Depending on the type of estimate you obtained, your goods may be re-weighed once they have been loaded on to the moving truck or van. In this case, your moving charges will be based on the re-weighed amount.

How soon in advance do I have to book one of your movers or packers?
This depends on the availability. However, you should contact a moving company as early as possible once your moving date has been confirmed. The summer months are always much busier so you may require more notice.

Can I still move in poor weather?
Yes, professional movers are prepared to move in almost any condition including sleet, snow or rain. Just make sure you clear the driveway beforehand if you are moving in snowy conditions.

Do I have to hire packers or can I do this myself?
You can certainly choose to pack your belongings and hire employees to transport them for you. However, you can also hire professional packers who are very experienced and have access to the proper packing equipment.
